Welcome Message from the President

Dear Members and Visitors,

Welcome to the official website of the Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs India (SBAOI). It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to our society, which has been at the forefront of biomaterials research and innovation in India since its inception and foundation in 1986.

Founded with a vision to advance biomaterials science and its applications in healthcare, SBAOI has consistently strived to foster collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and industry professionals. Our society has played a pivotal role in promoting interdisciplinary research, bridging the gap between academia and industry, and nurturing young talent in this crucial field.

Currently, we are actively engaged in cutting-edge research initiatives aimed at addressing global healthcare challenges through biomaterials innovation. From developing novel materials for medical implants to exploring regenerative medicine solutions, our members including large number of principle investigators from India are committed to driving impactful changes in healthcare delivery both locally and globally. SBAOI serves as an important platform that fosters collaboration with stakeholders and nurtures activities in Europe, North America, and South Asia. There has been an increasing trend of domestically manufacturing high-quality, cost-effective, and internationally competitive biomaterials and implants, leveraging indigenous technologies in India. Many Indian companies and start-ups have now realized the potential in biomaterials and medical device products and technologies and have started setting up the base in India. The industry-academia cooperation’s will be the driving force in the field of advancing research and healthcare solutions through cutting-edge medical devices and technologies.

Looking ahead, I envision expanding the footprint of SBAOI by enhancing international collaborations, advocating for policy support, and promoting ethical standards in biomaterials research. The main aim will be to create a vibrant ecosystem that encourages entrepreneurship, empowers researchers, and ultimately translates scientific discoveries into tangible benefits for patients worldwide. Additionally, I want to highlight the necessity of developing new initiatives tailored to meet the demands of industrial and clinical translation. I believe in emphasizing the core values, diversity, equity, and inclusiveness of SBAOI. Society membership benefits for students, post-doctoral researchers, and Indian-origin faculty and opportunities to get elected as fellows of SBAOI are immense. Moreover, there is growing international recognition of SBAOI members which adds more value to our efforts.

Looking at the broad scope of being associated with SBAOI, join us in our mission to harness the potential of biomaterials to revolutionize healthcare. Whether you are a seasoned researcher, a budding scientist, a healthcare professional, or simply interested in the field, SBAOI offers you a platform to contribute, learn, and grow.

Together, let’s shape the future of biomaterials and make a meaningful impact on global healthcare needs.

Warm regards,

Ashok Kumar
President, SBAOI
